JANUARY 2008 | TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHY
For me 2007 proved to be a very busy
year with trips to Hong Kong, Spain and East Africa. In June I spent
a week in Hong Kong to cover some of the 10th Anniversary celebrations
of the hand-over from Britain back to China. The last time I was in Hong
Kong was in 1994, three years before the hand-over. This time the weather
was fabulous and the city was free of smog when it mattered. Some of the
views from Kowloon over to Hong Kong Island were spectacular and the light
show in the evening is out of this world. In August a trip to
Spain took me to places such as Orba, Guadalest, a popular tourist destination,
but also very photogenic. In October and before the recent troubles
in Kenya I travelled to the Rift Valley and the Masai Mara specifically
to take photographs of the wildlife. The Mara’s extensive grasslands
opened up by fire and elephants attract huge herds of grazing animals including
the migrant wildebeest and Zebra. The Mara’s abundant herbivores make
it a paradise for predators such as lion, cheetah and leopard. I wasn't
disappointed!
